Rough Cut 2

Above is the second rough cut from the post-production, which includes our new narrative footage and improvements we mentioned from our last video.

Alongside the narrative, We have fixed the problems with our clock, spending more time on Photoshop editing a serrate clock video to give it a better flow. We have also fixed the introduction title slides which originally were added temporarily; we worked on Photoshop producing separate titles with different levels of drop-shadow and effects to give a neon-flashing effect when added to the video.

We have also added additional scenes into the video, such as the purple backdrop and the black and white-striped backdrop.

Areas for improvement:
  1. Add the new shoe-stamping introduction.
  2. Continue editing the footage to fit more to the beat.
  3. Fix problems with the clock.
  4. Add more narrative (bridge "boy come to me").
  5. Fix problems with gap at bottom of studio-shot footage.

Group Meeting

Group Meeting 29.11.12
Today we had another group meeting to discuss our work and ensure we're on track with the ahead deadlines, etc.
  1. Aimee has been assigned job of sorting through images and beginning to edit the photo-shoot for our DigiPak and will work on a digipak draft within the next few days.
  2. Robyn will finish the animatic for our music video and then begin work on advert/poster drafts.
  3. Jack will continue to edit the music video and prepare a third rough cut for this Friday's deadline.

Experimenting with Font

We needed to find an appropriate font to be on our digital pack, that is easy to read, clear but bold. These are a few examples we looked at for the font of the Track List and name of the album.

Draft Back image for Digital Pack

After our successfull photoshoot we collected our favourite images and chose which images we wanted to use for our Digital Pack. We wanted to keep with the neon theame but keep the clothing black beause it makes the colours stand out more. We wanted to keep Cherries pose natural and fun because the front of the Digital Pack will be fierece, this shows the different personalitys within her.

We feel like we could improve by changing the colours and style of font to go with the theme of our video and style of pop genre.

This image will be on the inside right of the digital pack.
This image will be on the left side of the digital pack.

These images will be opposite each other to represent the different personalities of Cherrie, her soft and sweet side with the lolly pop and her fierce pose with the love heart that says spoil me.

Successful Photoshoot - Digital Pack

This is our second time using the photography studio and over all we produced some great images. We experimented with sweets because our theme of our artist has two personalities for example Beyonce. The sweets symbolise the sweet side of Cherrie but her facial expressions are fierece and playful. We used Love Hearts because they have messages on them which we thought were a good idea but when it came to producing the images the messges were not clear on the camera.

Test Photoshoot

We practiced using the photography studio for our real photoshoot for the Digital Pack. We like what Cherrie is wearing as it stands out against the white background which will be eye catching once it has the neon writing on the wall.

Narrative Rough Cut

After our latest team meeting we decided to film the narrative for the video, This is our first narrative rough cut filmed in the libary at college. This is where Cherrie and her love interest meet for the first time and she starts to follow him. Overall we like the pace of the editing and the quality of the shots, we think it will compliment our video perfectly. however the group feel like the last few seconds worth of clips are too 'dragged out' and dont reflet the pace of the song. and so further editing will be needed to ensure we match the pace of the song; we will play around with the studio close-ups ect to add to the pace.

Story Board

Storyboard

We have created a frame by frame storyboard for our music video which allows us when constructing the piece to refer back to our original plans. This helped us with the editing our piece, we may make changes to the shots, scenes and other aspects of the video. For ease of understanding, each slide is expected to last approximately two seconds.

What is Genre

We defined 'genre' in the dictionary to get a specific definition.
A category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter.
We have decided to stick to a pop/dance genre when producing and recording our music video, as it's genres we are most comfortable and enjoy the most, meaning we will be passionate about creating a great product.

Rough Cut

This is our first rough-cut of our music video, and although it is in it’s very early stages, we can see the piece coming together with the camera shots, fast-paced editing and mise-en-scene all complimenting one another.

We like the speed and the pace of the introduction, and also like the different cuts to different scenes, and we also like how the beach scene’s mise-en-scene has turned out, alongside the colourful stripes.

In terms of areas of improvement, we have noted that the marching high-heel shot urgently needs to be re-shot, as it is out of focus and was a ‘test shot’ to see how it would work; we would like to film this in a photography studio using a white background for a greater affect, and will do this within the coming days.

We also have decided that the clock animation, despite much effort, still doesn’t look as effective as it could be, so we will re-draft the clock soon to fit better with the pace of the idea.

The ‘End of Time – Cherrie’ introduction graphic also needs to be updated; we played around on Photoshop to develop a quick indent for the draft edits until we develop a proper brand identity when creating our digipak and advert, which we will begin to draft within the coming days.

We have also realized that a lot of the shots are on the screen for far too long and don’t fit with the pace of the music, so more changes will need to be made during the production to ensure we have a quicker pace and tempo which matches the beat and words of the song.

Overall, however, despite being a rough cut, we are pleased with the direction in which our video is going, and will continue to edit the piece focusing on the points raised above when making changes.

Clothing

Inspiration Board - Digital Pack

The images we have chosen to include in the mood board inspire our digital pack, We want to go with a sweetie theme but also have Cherrie looking fierce like Beyonce. Katy Perry has previously used candy as a theme for her album California Dreams. We want the Digital Pack to be fun and colourful like our video for End Of Time.

Working and Editing our video

Constructing the neon clock

We constructed a clock for the beginning of our music video to represent the end of time. We chose to have it in a neon effect to go with the theme and style of the video.

Shooting Schedule

The Shooting Schedule helped us plan for shooting our video, thinking about details like the Mes En Scene and action within the shot.

Test Footage 2

American Background

We experimented with using different types of backgrounds to give the video a different vibe. We chose the American Flag to give an American feel however we did not feel it did not fit the style of our video.

 Test Screen

The group liked the idea of using a test screen because its coluorful and eye catching but we once again it did not fit the style of our video.

Documentary Background

We repositioned the cameras to give the video a documentary style, we wouldn't use this technique for the video but it would work well in evaluation for the "Making of the video".

Paradise Background

For experimental use we used non-neon backgrounds to see what it looked like.

Non Neonbackground

Recce Shots. 2nd Day Filming

We went to our college's filming studio to test our footage (see Test Footage page), and also tried out different coloured backgrounds and styling to ensure we had the perfect shots when we began filming the actual footage.

Here are some photos from our pre-planning, and also from the actual day of filming in the studio.

Audience Profile: Itunes Playlist

We believe that our target audience will be interested in the following styles of music, from artists such as Katy Perry, JLo, Misha B, Rihanna and Beyonce, the artist we've chosen to create our music video on.

Draft Edit 3

Playing around with editing techniques, we decided to try out a quick-cutting technique to show our star walking away from the shot combined with an establishing long shot of the beach.

Draft Edit 2

When filming on the beach, our main shot was our star in a close-up, singing to the song behind the sea. We have edited the footage to play her singing the entire song in the same shot; we shall obviously edit this down and use only tiny snippets of this shot throughout the video. Overall we are happy with this shot and styling and will definitely use this in our final piece.

End Of Time Draft 1

To create something unique for our video we decided to draw out the song title in stones - while we don't yet know whether or not we'll use this footage in the real sequence, I have edited the footage to the title of the song which we can then embed into our real video during the chorus should we use it.
